Porsche, Ferrari launch podcasts to relieve #iso fatigue


PREMIUM car brands are racing to feed their global fan's lockdown-induced need for entertainment with a rollout of new podcasts.

Ferrari, Jaguar and Porsche and are among the frontrunners to market with branded audio-and-visual offerings focused respectively on their histories, race and technology innovations as well as deep-thinking lateral pieces about the way of the world at large.

Ferrari, which this week re-opened its factories in Maranello and Modena, has launched a series of podcast stories designed to take enthusiasts on a seven-decade journey of the company’s evolution.

“The Origins of a Legend” tracks Ferrari’s journey from its first track triumph in 1947 (when Franco Cortese won the Rome Grand Prix), to the 1948 launch of the Ferrari 166 MM, the brand’s victory the next year in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, to the present day.

There's a restriction, though: Ferrari’s seven-part weekly podcast, which launched in April, is available only on Spotify.

Across the English Channel, Jaguar Racing has made its video podcast series - “RE:CHARGE @ Home” - more readily available to fans across YouTube, Spotify, Apple and Google Podcasts.

Each episode presents new guests from Formula E and the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY – the word’s first all-electric touring car series.

In the latest episode, Panasonic Jaguar Racing driver James Calado and Jaguar Racing Ambassador Ho-Pin Tung discuss their roles in the Jaguar Racing team, and explain how the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY acts as a test bed for electrification technology.

The Germans, meanwhile, take things up a notch with Porsche’s latest podcast dealing with deeper, more broad-ranging global issues.

Launched in April - and pegged off the company’s in-house platform of the same name exploring challenges and opportunities of the future - “Next Visions” looks at current social, economic and ethical questions.

Each of the program's five episodes feature two thought leaders discussing relevant topics, kicking off with a former football boss and a London Business School Organisational Behaviour professor discussing radical career decisions and leadership in times of disruption.

The pair consider what authentic leadership looks like in a technology-driven age as well as how to define a successful career.

Food for thought in a future landscape which keeps shifting.
